Greetings, earthlings.
I have so many things for your ears!
Three things I loved listening to this week:
1. Look at What the Light Did Now
Little Wings is playing at the Radio Bean on 10/15 so I’m listening to a lot of him:
2. Wildflower
Wildflower is playing at Autumn Records on 10/26! Adrian’s most recent album is gorgeous, I know I’ve shared it here before but I’m sharing it again:
3. adrienne maree brown’s election time series
Through her podcast, How to Survive the End of the World, adrienne maree brown is sharing a special series of “election time” interviews with brilliant friends, organizers, and thinkers exploring the complex emotional landscape and tactical strategies available to us this election season.
These conversations challenge me, give form to my mushy feelings, soothe my broken heart and mind, and inspire me to sink deeper into organizing work.
An excerpt from an August 13 interview with Ash-Lee Woodward Henderson:
alwh: “If we are gonna vote, we should have organized demands. Biden is going to be president through January. We should be pushing him. The DNC hasn’t happened yet, we should be pushing the party. Kamala has enough delegates but is not the nominee yet, and so should be pushed. There are things we could win right now if we were strategic, regardless of whether you’re going to vote for her or not.”
amb: “It’s time for a strategy that’s like, ‘What are the actual opportunities?’ I always think about Movement Generation’s thing–there’s what’s politically possible, there’s what we actually want, and then there’s the false solution. And the false solution is so tasty, it’s the easy one, it’s the status quo, often–how do we get what we want and how do we make it politically possible?”
HOW DO WE GET WHAT WE WANT, AND HOW DO WE MAKE IT POLITICALLY POSSIBLE?
Last week was the first-ever Radical Adventure Riders Northeast Autumn Retreat (RAR NAR), a regional gathering for FTWNB (femme, trans, women, and non-binary) bikepackers.
I couldn’t make the event itself, so I was honored and thrilled to be able to contribute some illustration and design work.
I shared the initial branding a few months ago:
Here’s how the site map turned out:
And the schedule of events:
And a design for DIY on-site screenprinting shirts:
Thank you to Sequoia, Deb, and the RAR Champlain Valley organizers and other northeast RAR organizers who made this important gathering happen!
Thank you for being here!
